Virus SW-80 SOP – Chapter 2 | Limitations, Prohibitions & Restrictions Explained
Flying is not just about skill.
It is about discipline and limits.
In this blog, we cover Chapter 2 of the Virus SW-80 SOP – which defines the operational boundaries of the aircraft.
This chapter is extremely important for:
- NCC Air Wing cadets
- AIVSC / B & C Certificate aspirants
- Flying training students
- Technical viva preparation

📘 CHAPTER II
LIMITATIONS / PROHIBITIONS / RESTRICTIONS
This chapter tells you what you can do,
what you must not do,
and under what conditions the aircraft performance changes.
🛩️ 1. MANOEUVRE LIMITATIONS
These are minimum height and speed restrictions for safe maneuvering.
(a) Power On / Off Stalls
❌ Not below 1500 ft AGL
(b) Power On / Off Lazy Eights
❌ Not below 1500 ft AGL
✔ Entry speed: 110 Kts
(c) Steep Turns
✔ Initial speed: 100 Kts
(d) Chandelle
✔ Entry speed: 120 Kts
❌ Not below 500 ft AGL
(e) Spin Initiation
❌ Not below 2500 ft AGL
✔ Recovery must start within maximum 180° of spin
(f) Operational Approval
✔ Aircraft approved for Day VFR only
No night flying.
No IFR operations.
🚫 2. PROHIBITIONS
The following operations are strictly prohibited:
❌ Flying with both doors open
❌ Flying in heavy rainfall
❌ Flying in thunderstorms / known icing
❌ Flying in blizzards
❌ Flying in IMC / IFR conditions
❌ Flying when OAT above 55°C
❌ Using fuel with more than 10% alcohol
❌ Aerobatic manoeuvres including full developed spin
❌ Take-off & landing with flaps fully retracted
If it says prohibited — there is no discussion.
⚠️ 3. LIMITATIONS / RESTRICTIONS / WARNINGS
These affect aircraft performance and safety.
🌬️ Wind Limits
- Maximum wind for parking (without tie-down): 15 Kts
- Maximum wind for parking (with tie-down): 40 Kts
⛽ Fuel Indication Warning
Flying in side slip turbulence may give non-precise fuel quantity indication.
🌱 Soft Grass Runway Effect
Soft/unpaved runway increases take-off performance data by 20%.
Meaning: You need more runway.
💨 Headwind Effect
Headwind reduces take-off & landing distance by:
➡ 8 meters for every 3 Kts (5 km/h) increase
🌪️ Tailwind Effect
Tailwind increases required distance by:
➡ 18–28 meters for every 3 Kts (5 km/h) increase
⚠ Tailwind affects performance more than twice as much as headwind.
Remember this line. It’s commonly asked.
🎯 Why Chapter 2 Is Very Important
This chapter builds your airmanship and judgment.
As someone preparing for SSB and aiming for Armed Forces, understand this:
An officer is judged not by how aggressively he flies —
but by how responsibly he respects limitations.
Memorize the numbers.
Understand the logic behind them.
📌 Smart Study Method
1️⃣ Watch the video fully
2️⃣ Revise using the PDF
3️⃣ Make a small notebook with all speed & altitude limits
4️⃣ Practice oral recall (important for viva)
🚀 Final Words
Chapter 2 is about discipline.
If you respect limits, you fly safely.
If you ignore them, you invite accidents.
Study this chapter seriously.
